«In computing, an input device is a piece of equipment used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or information appliance. Examples of input devices include keyboards, mouse, scanners, cameras, joysticks, and microphones.

A common computer input device, a keyboard. A user presses a key which transfers information to a computer.

Computer Keyboard

“keyboard” is a human interface device which is represented as a layout of buttons.

Each button, or key, can be used to either input a linguistic character to a computer, or to call upon a particular function of the computer.

They act as the main text entry interface for most users.

Traditional keyboard use spring-based buttons, though newer variations employ virtual keys, or even projected keyboards.

Pointing device

Pointing devices are the most commonly used input devices today. A Pointing device is any human interface device that allows a user to input spatial data to a computer.

In the case of mouse and touchpads, this is usually achieved by detecting movement across a physical surface.

Analog devices, such as 3D mice, joysticks, or pointing device are echoed on the screen by movements of the pointer, creating a simple, intuitive way to navigate a computer’s graphical user interface (GUL).

Scanner

A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for computer editing and display. Scanners come in hand-held, feed-in, and flatbed types and for scanning black-and-white only, or color. Very high-resolution scanners are used for scanning for high-resolution printing, but lower resolution scanners are adequate for capturing images for computer display. Scanners usually come with software, such as Adobe’s Photoshop product, that lets you resize and otherwise modify a captured image.

Flatbed scanner

This is the most common and simplest scanner available today, and you can choose one of them that best suits your requirements.

Photo scanner

If you are specifically looking for scanning images, pictures, old photographs then you must go for the photo scanners as they will give premium results.

Document scanner

As the name suggests, these scanners are used especially for scanning multiple documents in large sizes.

Portable scanner

Portable scanners are handy and often come in a size that can fit in your pocket.

Joysticks

A joystick is an input device consisting of a stick that pivots on a base and reports its angle or direction to the device it is controlling.

A joystick, also known as the control column, is the principal control device in the cockpit many civilian and military aircraft, either as a center stick or side-stick. It often has supplementary switches to control various aspects of the aircraft’s flight.

Microphones

When a microphone is connected to a computer (via an audio interface or another analog-to-digital converter), it sends/inputs information into the computer. This means microphones are input devices. Digital mics with built-in headphone amps that receive info from computers are input/output devices.
