cant go wrong with the odyssey. you do have to be pretty well-versed in mythology to understand some parts and nuances, mostly roman and greek. of course you do have to consider that this book is considerably old, and some parts age poorly (at some point a woman is told that 'talking is a man's work' and that she should go busy herself), so fair warning on that. but in general, the odyssey is so well known and referenced in so many places, that its a must-read (or must listen to i suppose) for anyone interested in reading, or Mythos, or older books and tales.
