Steam Boilers and Heat Exchanger  is a book of Series Books on Inspection by Fereydoun Majdnia and Evgeny Sergeev. The purpose of this series of book is to discuss and explain the inspection of the Processing equipment used in Oil and Gas production facilities and assist new inspectors and students in developing the basic skills. The intention is not to talk about the inspection of equipment during the fabrication and assembly at shop which requires different approach and technique it is rather to concentrate on the in-service inspection.

The reason for the inspection of a process equipment which has been in service for a period of times, is to gather data on the condition of the equipment and parts so that it can be analysed and a reasonable assessment is made of the equipment’s mechanical integrity for continued service or scope of the repair, upgrading, alteration and or replacement as required.

Steam Boilers and Heat Exchanger is dedicated to steam boilers and heat exchangers which are used in oil and gas plants, power industries. It is of great importance to get familiarized with the common problems and degradation mechanisms in equipment especially the boilers and ensure they operate in safe condition as the failure of boilers has been catastrophic in the past 100 years. 

The availability and reliability of the boilers and heat exchangers is of the prime concern in each operating unit. Plant management normally try all means to ensure this is achieved in safest and economical ways. Most of the companies now-a-days have adopted an asset integrity management system and follow the principals to achieve the goal or hired team of engineers or technicians to concentrate on assets and their reliability.
