if you're just a beginner and not used to long novels like War and Peace and Less Miserables, and you're interested in a portrait of realism, it's exactly what you're looking for. This novella and the idea of the plot at first impression look funny to you, but when you proceed more and delve into it, you slowly grasp the metaphors behind each character and what they resemble. ofc there is not any room for characterization when writing a novella or a short story but the plot and how Kafka set each character in a position that was not their choice, it is tangible to guess what kinda of mindset each character has.
